Has winter hit where you are? Or are in the midst of a hot dry summer seaon?
That is the amazing thing about having customers world wide, the climate varys so much!
We are enjoying an extra long fall here in Southern Ontario and today was especially nice!
Quick tip: Did you know that SILK can keep you warm??? Yup, I know a farmer who used to wear his wife's silk scarf out on the tractor to keep himself warm, it was also good because it didn't chafe. (which is also why airplane pilots wore them). I say he "used" to wear his wives because once I found out, I gave him some of his own! Then a friend of mine I met in a running club in mid January wore one for running in minus temperatures. Try it!
If you are looking to receive scarves before Christmas, please order soon!
To those celebrating Thanksgiving this week ~ have a great holiday!!
Warmly, (because I am wearing a scarf of course)
"Scarves I Love"
(and some sweaters too!)
I was busy today getting an auction of scarves ready for this week’s auction and I started getting really annoyed by the number of FAKE designer silk scarves out there. When I was shopping for “used” & “pre-owned” scarves this week, I found an alarming number of fakes. Now, there are always the obvious ~ cheap, poorly made fake brand names. Then there are the ones which are made of real quality silk, are really hand rolled and hand stitched but they have a fake signature. I won’t ever knowingly sell a fake scarf; to me they are trash, which at the same time is so wasteful.
Then I was further bothered when I “googled” fake designer scarves and instead of finding out how to spot a fake, or what a fake was I was given pages of places I could purchase fake scarves!!!
The purpose of this blog isn’t to try to explain how to spot a fake, but I will eventually do that. However I do just want to say, be sure you know what you are buying. I am not as brand conscious as some others, but it bothers me when people pay for something thinking they are getting something else! There are many, many, beautiful scarves with lesser known designers or that are completely unsigned and unbranded, which can be just as lovely. In fact a favourite (Canadian spelling), scarf can be silk, cotton, rayon, polyester or acrylic, being inexpensive does not make it cheap.
When you get to know scarves after working with them for several years, it becomes easier to spot the fakes, and it is hard to not become the fake silk scarf police! However, instead I have decided to further educate myself and offer as many beautiful, quality, authentic pieces to my customers as I can.
Check out this week’s auctions and the thousands of BIN “Buy it now” scarves on eBay!
OK, so the easy answer would be "Lots". There is so much I don't know! And working on the internet for over 10 years reminds me of that almost daily!
So I am thankful to say today I figured out a convenient way to link my eBay items to my website!!! This has been an on going frustration that I have been working on for over a year ~ So I am thankful that tonight I figured it out!!! I am thankful for the html experience I have gained over the last number of years and I am also thankful for "ctr. c & ctrl v"
So, with that behind me I will attempt to get the prices and links working for the new items on "Scarves I Love"! Including this gorgeous multi ruffle animal print one!
The Gallery of items (Home page) and on the right of this blog only has a small sampling of over 1,000 scarves available, so please feel free to take a look!
Now, back to figuring out how to get the podcast I recorded on my iphone, linked to my website!
If you are trying to figure some thing out, and just know there must be a way, let me encourage you to hang in there!
I really admire when people write regular blogs!
This summer has been a summer of change! I feel like I say that every summer!
I made some very intentional changes to my businesses. Most of the changes I have done on my own. For some other changes, for some of the planning and staying focused I hired a business coach and I took part in a Website Redesign Bootcamp. I also had lots of help from my wildly talented niece with graphics and can't wait to introduce some of the characters she brought to life for me both for my website and an eBook I am working.
Things can move pretty slow in the summer. I learned to be patient and just keep moving forward. There was nothing that HAD to be done overnight.
Now the summer is almost over and I feel like I will never finish what I wanted to. But I know that with God's help I will finish what I need to!
This is my first summer "working" my eBay business all of June, July and August and I can say it was a SUCCESS! I sold over 560 scarves and sweaters. Compared to 250 in the same months last year! Sure a 15% off sale all summer helped!
I am geared up to go again.... I list my first new auction this Sunday to end the first weekend of September. I can hardly believe it!
Some new things to watch for on www.scarvesilove.com
I've really enjoyed the world of Social Media! A year ago I didn't have a twitter account, now I have 2 @pinkcanada and @scarvesilove I have well over 1,000 followers on @pinkcanada and should reach 1,000 on @scarvesilove any day! I can honestly say ~ I have "met" some really great people, 140 ct at a time! Who knew!
I make no promises that I am going to become a regular blogger.... however if you did happen to stumble by and have read this. THANK YOU! Please take a moment and say hi! If you have any questions or comments I will absolutely get back to you!
I am absolutely loving the bright fresh colours of this spring - summer season! However I have to admit as I look at my wardrobe and my accessories... I have some work to do!
It's a great time for me actually. With clear conscience I will be heading out to shop for accessories "I need". I got rid of a lot when we moved a year ago. I went through with eyes open, and gave away (or threw away), the stuff that I knew I wasn't going to use again, was outdated, worn out or was in the "why did I ever buy that" category. And yet, I have some more clearing out to do. So I am going to do a Spring Cleaning of my wardrobe and accessories.
I'm not sure I will buy a bright blue handbag, but I haven't ruled it out!
Having my accessories organized and knowing what I love to wear and how to wear them, has completely changed how I view getting dressed in the morning, or that special night out... no more ~ ackkkk what am I going to wear!

This week I will be doing a complete wardrobe and accessories inventory. Some have asked me to walk them through an accessories inventory. And I would love to! I've gotten it down to such a simple system, so I am busy writing it down so I can share with you! I am writing it up in a little eReport. If you would like a FREE copy. Just send me an email and I will send it to you as soon as it is formated. Just send me an email with YES! Please send me the eReport in the title to firstname.lastname@example.org

Does your look enhance you or does it
portray a lack of self-confidence, lack of ambition, or lack of effort?
Imagine feeling great about putting together your look on a daily basis.
Imagine being organized and being able to have your accessories
say exactly what you want them to about you. "

Sunday afternoon I had a great time with 15 fabulous ladies from Kitchener Waterloo ~ I am sorry I don't have any photos! I should have designated a photo taker!!
One question in particular (other than... did you notice the "sparkle" on a certain young ladies hand)... has stuck with me... I had refered to a scarf as a favourite. And was asked "what makes it a favourite?" If someone was going to buy one scarf that they would love and wear... what would they look for?
First off I have more scarves than I have ever counted, and have a number of fav's... but this one in particular is a favorite, because it just has a comfortable look and feel to it ~ without being fussy, and may even look cotton, but it is 100% silk. I love that it is a colour that I don't wear a lot, but goes with items I do! (such as a white T and Jean Jacket ). Other favourites are because they are trendy and fun... I am wearing a lot of animal prints lately ~ but I would never feel comfortable in a complete animal print top or jacket. I have a NECKLUXE with a lot of purple ~ it's a hot colour trend, but I don't own a single clothing item in purple. Some are favourites because they feel fabulous ~ silk/cashmere pashmina just feels so cozy on a chilly Winter day... Then there is my Pink & Ivory Chanel... which I had to have because it is just "me", and a great "preowned", "pre-loved" find! ..I'll stop. I think they got it... you need variety!
If you want an up close and personal ~ touch them, feel them, try them on ~ experience like these ladies had ~ email me and we'll set up your Demonstration/Trunkshow or Personal Party!!
Getting ready for this Sunday's Shop Social "The Retro Style Lab" !!! You can probably still get tickets! If you buy them on line make sure you use the code "SoRetro" to save $5 off tickets.
I have had a busy month since my last blog entry!
... I am very thankful that someone noticed my items on Etsy and invited me to participate in the Toronto Art of Fashion Show Trunkshow, October 2, 2010. What an amazing experience! I am still absorbing much of the evening. It felt like we were taking lots of photos but taking into account the poor lighting in our area and all the hustle and bustle I don't have as many as I would like so I am hoping to find some on line.
Here are a few of highlights!
I will keep you posted with some new styles and designs! Thank you for all the support, enouraging emails and purchases!
I am excited about some new Silk Scarf Necklaces! The basic design is the infinity loop, so it is a continuous loop and can be worn so many ways!!!
As always composed of 100% Silk with Vintage Costume Jewellery and findings.
I haven't completely decided whether to list them first on Ebay or to try Etsy.
Have a look, let me know what you think!!
Wear them as long or short as you want. Fill in a jacket neckline, Loop it once, twice, three times, so many options!!!
I will not be selling on ebay for the summer months (June - August) ~ however will be gearing up for September! I am sure it will be here before we know it.
I can not help but notice all the references and articles this spring/summer to Silk Scarves!!! The trend is going strong, and more than ever is seen as a great way to add color and interest to an outfit.
Personally I do not wear as many scarves through the summer months but I am already seeing them tied to belt loops and/or purse straps and used to tie hair back!
Time permitting, I will be adding to the silk scarf jewellry ~ these will either be offered here on the site, on etsy or at demonstration, so watch for that information.
As many of you know I will be MOB ~ Mother of the Bride this July, so we are looking forward with anticipation to this JOYOUS occasion! Congratulations CHARLENE AND GRAHAM!
Have a great summer, may it be a time of reconnecting, refreshment and a blessed time for you all!!!!
A.R.B.O.N ~ A Romantic Blend Old & New ~
Here is a preview of a necklace made from a silk scarf and vintage jewellery items. This has been a fun outlet for me! These are not up for sale or auction at this time.
